Commuters passing through Richmond can now pick up handmade pastries and award-winning cakes on their journeys, thanks to a new opening from independent bakery Heidi inside the station concourse.
The Richmond location marks the bakery’s eighth site, offering freshly prepared pastries, savoury items, salads, and cakes all made daily at its Windsor production studio in Windsor.
Co-owner Edward Durkin said:
“Richmond is such a beautiful town with a great mix of locals and visitors, and the station is a major gateway for thousands of people each day. We wanted to bring something high-quality and independent to this nationally significant hub. We aim to give commuters and residents a proper handmade alternative to the usual high-street chains.”
Heidi has earned five Great Taste Awards, including a three-star accolade for its Chocolate Hazelnut Cruffin and a two-star award for its Chocolate Mirror Cake.
The new bakery occupies a prominent spot with direct access from both the ticket hall and the high street. Durkin highlighted one standout feature: a nine-metre marble counter that runs the length of the shop, showcasing the team’s daily bakes.
South Western Railway recently restored the historic station building, highlighting its original Art Deco elements. The site serves as a key interchange between London’s transport networks, including London Overground and National Rail services.
Heidi Richmond is open seven days a week, from 6.30 am on weekdays, and is located at the station entrance on Kew Road, close to Buckingham Palace via connecting services.
